A little later than originally planned, here is the second part of our preview for ArcticDesk v1.2.0. This preview will primarily focus on our ticketing system which has received a large number of improvements in this release. We're now completing and testing the final few changes and we hope to release the beta of v1.2.0 within a week from now.

A new lightweight and dynamic ticket grid

A new lightweight and dynamic ticket grid

We've stripped out the old clunky grid and replaced it with a much lighter and flexible pure jQuery grid, RichHTML, developed by our friends at ClientExec. The new grid is far more responsive and allows the ticket actions at the bottom to be completed with one less click, we now also make extensive use of AJAX and automatically update the ticket listing without requiring a page refresh. Going forward, we are looking to extend the grid functionality further, for example, to allow the selection of which columns should show.

Powerful filtering options

Powerful filtering options

Ticket filters have been added to ArcticDesk to allow you to create and save your own custom filters. You can currently filter the status, department, priority and if tickets are assigned to you. If there is a common set of tickets that you have to frequently search for, you can now save the filter and access it easily from the sidebar. We are planning to add more filtering options in future releases.

Ticket labels

As a way of further organising the tickets in your system, it is now possible to tag tickets with labels. The labels are completely private to the operators and it is possible to generate a list of tickets with specific labels.

One more thing…

Responsive and mobile friendly operator panel
Approximate screen resolution per device type, width in pixels
Desktop: 1024px+
Tablet: 720px - 1024px
Mobile: 320px - 720px

In the style of the late Steve Jobs, there is one more thing that we'd like to show you today. In the last preview, we demonstrated our new mobile friendly client side interface, and we've now extended that to the operator panel too. Designed to be effective on both mobiles and tablets, the responsive operator panel interface gives you full functionality on whatever device you are using, be it a desktop or a mobile. We decided that the mobile version should not cut out any features, and thus the responsive interface functions much better than a watered down mobile template or application. Above is an animation that shows how the operator panel looks at various screen widths.

All in all, we have made a lot of changes and we are sure that you will love v1.2.0 as much as we do.
